La Rochelle

The first ever Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series event brought together the best divers in the world to showcase the pure heart and spirit of cliff diving. La Rochelle in France provided the most spectacular location for the kick off to the inaugural season of cliff diving – the name 'La Rochelle' translates to 'little cliff'... but the challenge was far from small! The divers went head-to-head from 27m above the Bay of Biscay, swooping and somersaulting their way into the points for 2009. It was Ukraine's Andrey Ignatenko who took the very first victory of the World Series season, with Colombia Orlando Duque in second, and British diver Gary Hunt taking the final step on the La Rochelle podium.
